How to Lead Your Child to Salvation in Jesus Christ

When teaching your children how to be saved, keep it simple! “Gospel” means “good news”. Salvation is not a complicated process—it is a simple exchange of our sin and death for God’s salvation and eternal life because of Jesus.

Here are some concepts and scriptures to talk through and discuss with your child:

(All scriptures are taken from the NLT.)

  • God is perfect, and we are not

    • Romans 3:10 As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one.”

    • Romans 3:23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

  • Because we are sinners, we deserve to die and be separated from God forever

    • Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death…

  • But God WANTS us to be with Him, so He made a way for us by sending His only Son Jesus to die in our place

    • Romans 6:23b …but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

    • Romans 5:8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

    • John 3:16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

    • 1 John 4:10 This is real lovenot that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

  • Jesus didn’t stay dead—He was brought back to life by the power of the Holy Spirit on the third day, and now lives forever in heaven!

    • 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 …Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.

  • We can accept the free gift of salvation and eternal life that Jesus offers us

    • Romans 10:9-10 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

  • When we are saved, the Holy Spirit of God lives inside of us, giving us power to follow Jesus in our everyday life

    • Romans 8:2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

    • 1 Corinthians 1:22 …He has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.

The Scripture is so rich with instruction, direction, and promises! Get into God’s Word with your children so they can begin to experience it in their own lives. It is never too early to begin to plant seeds of faith and whet a desire in them to be in relationship with Jesus.
